The world shall never forget: Stalingrad
It was 1942 and the world was at war for the second time. Stalingrad, a city that would be remembered for the brutal battle that took place, in, and around it, during a period of 153 days, (roughly 5 months). Stalingrad is a word that would go hand in hand with brutality, savagery, viciousness, determination, and ferocity. Throughout this website you will read and see how the five month long "mini campaign" is still remembered, over sixty years after its occurrence. Just to give you a taste of how big this battle was, it is estimated that in between 1.5 million and 2.5 million people lost their lives during the Battle of Stalingrad. To put that huge number into perspective, it is estimated that between 300 thousand and 420 thousand Americans lost their lives during the entire Second World War. Not to mention that the majority of the Battle of Stalingrad was fought during an unforgiving "Russian Winter", with a average sub-zero temperatures. In fact, Stalingrad was on the banks of the River Volga, which froze solid in December 1942, half way through the epic stand still between Nazi Germany, with her allies, and Soviet Russia.
